Welcome to Spanish Abroad
More than 400 million people in the world already speak the language of Cervantes.
Spanish is a rising language. It is a necessity in our present times to speak Spanish, not a passing fashion. It is, by number of speakers, the third language of the world and an official language in the European Union.
It is the second language spoken in the United States, that counts on several radio and television in Spanish; also, and for strictly economic reasons, it is the language that more people studies like foreign language in the nonHispanic countries of the Americas and Europe.
Distant already are the old times in which the language was considered essential in diplomatic fields, then it was replaced by French and today is an official language of the UN and its international organisms, the European Union and other organizations.
It has been including like a important language within the great international information highways like Internet, which assures the constant translation to computer of science innovations, its diffusion and intercommunication.
Where the future of the language appears more uncertain is in the African continent, left for political reasons to the will of its inhabitants. However, everything seems to assure that if we propose it, in the future Spanish will be one of the languages of greater diffusion, and who knows if at times of desirable mixing, it does not give rise to an intermediate language that provides a communication weapon with the Americas continent as a whole.
It is important therefore, that we, who have the fortune to speak it, every day make a hard defense of its principles and its preservation to continue with the great legacy of men like Cervantes Saavedra, Octavio Paz, Nebrija, Borges and so many more than also expressed their Art in Spanish.
